In October 1992, however, after their away game against Iceland and home game with Russia were both postponed, Yugoslavia was suspended by FIFA as a result of the United Nations sanctions against that country stemming from the Yugoslav wars. The remaining 5 teams competed on a home-and-away basis for 2 of the 12 spots in the final tournament allocated to the European zone, with the group's winner and runner-up claiming those spots. Note: The draw was made on 8 December 1991, at that time was not yet called . Yugoslavia was excluded due to UN sanctions in connection with the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Yugoslavia has been called Serbia and Montenegro since February 2003, and just Serbia since 2006. ==Standings==
